The Integrity Group for a Better Nigeria (IGBN) has commended the untiring efforts of the military in curbing terrorism, especially neutralising terrorists’ commanders, saying their operations have yielded significant results in Northern Nigeria.
IGBN’s spokesperson, Daniel Sani, gave the commendation while addressing a press conference in Jos.
According to him, the military has neutralised terrorist commanders and rescued hostages, secured key territories and returned displaced persons to their communities, among others.
He argued that the northern part of Nigeria has not had it this good, adding that this is because almost the whole of Borno and parts of Adamawa and Yobe states were under the control of the dreaded group Boko Haram until the advent of the present administration of President Bola Tinubu.
“When the insurgents were neutralised, the areas recovered and all displaced persons return to their communities.
“These achievements demonstrate the military’s commitment to restoring peace and security.
“The change in administration in 2023 marked a pivotal moment in the fight against insecurity in the region. There is now hope that peace could return. We hail the dedication of Nigeria’s servicemen and women towards tackling criminals in the northern part of the country.”
Sani also stated that the group is playing a vital collaborative role in supporting these efforts through community engagement and fostering dialogue and trust between security agencies and local communities.
He maintained that they also promote peace building initiatives, tolerance, understanding, and peaceful coexistence between communities and security operatives as well as provide assistance to families affected by terrorism.
“The Integrity Group for a Better Nigeria (IGBN) in collaboration with the Military and Government agencies has been instrumental in intelligence gathering, facilitating information sharing between communities and security agencies and supporting initiatives aimed at reintegrating former victims and combatants.”
The group also called on the federal government to urgently address the socio-economic challenges and promote inclusive development.
