The Coalition for Human Rights and Freedom (CHRF) has applauded the Nigerian Armed Forces and the Federal Ministry of Defence for their significant strides in restoring security and stability across the nation, particularly in the northern region. The organisation also announced its endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election in 2027, citing progress made under his administration in combating insecurity.
In a press statement released yesterday, secretary-general of CHRF, Tijjani Nana Lawal, commended the strategic leadership of the minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, noting that his stewardship has contributed to substantial advancements in Nigeria’s fight against terrorism, banditry, and other security threats.
“The unwavering efforts and sacrifices made by Nigerian troops, coupled with the strategic initiatives of the Defence Ministry, have significantly advanced the fight against insecurity,” Lawal stated.
According to CHRF, joint operations between the Ministry of Defence and the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) have been instrumental in dismantling terrorist strongholds and reclaiming territories previously held by Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgents. The organisation highlighted the neutralisation of high-value targets and the recovery of large swaths of land as major indicators of progress.
In addition to field operations, Lawal praised the Defence Ministry for deploying advanced surveillance technologies and enhancing intelligence-sharing mechanisms, particularly in the Lake Chad region.
These efforts, he noted, have strengthened Nigeria’s cross-border response and bolstered national security.
CHRF also recognised the Joint Doctrine and Warfare Centre established under the Defence Ministry, which it said has unified operational strategies across the armed forces and other security agencies. The group reported that over 13,500 terrorists and criminals have been neutralised, while nearly 10,000 hostages have been rescued since the renewed push for security began.
“The operational successes recorded across the northeast, northwest, and north-central zones are a testament to the Defence Ministry’s effective strategies,” the statement added.
Beyond military operations, CHRF emphasised the need for a holistic approach to peacebuilding. It called for a combination of military engagement, socio-economic development, education, and good governance to ensure lasting peace. The organisation specifically lauded Operation Safe Corridor, a deradicalisation initiative targeting former insurgents, as an example of effective community reintegration.
The coalition further praised President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, describing his administration’s stance on security as decisive and impactful. It pointed to his “Enough is enough” directive as a pivotal moment that galvanised security efforts and fostered a collaborative environment among stakeholders.
“President Tinubu’s commitment to national security, economic development, and social cohesion has laid a solid foundation for peace and progress. That’s why CHRF is fully behind his re-election in 2027,” Lawal declared.
CHRF called on Nigerians to continue supporting the armed forces and to remain united in the face of ongoing security challenges. The group reaffirmed its dedication to advocating for policies that promote human rights, national unity, and sustainable peace.
