Group Commends Yari On Issue-based Campaign

A public advocacy group, New Nigeria Initiative (NNI), has praised Senator Abdul’aziz Yari for committing to issue-based campaigns.

Yari, a former governor of Zamfara State, is the director-general of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council.

LEADERSHIP reports that Yari led the Tinubu-Shettima Campaign delegation to Jos, Plateau State, for ongoing stakeholders’ engagements on Sunday.

As the arrowhead of the APC presidential campaign, Yari said that the campaign he leads will be based on issues.

He had followed up this commitment with consultations with major traditional rulers across the country.
The group’s director of Public Affairs, Chris Oke, in a statement issued in Jos, said Senator Yari has, through his approach, brought finesse and civility to political party campaigns.

He said unlike the trend, where campaigns are about hurling insults and abuse at will, Yari has ensured that issues, not abuse, dominate the electioneering.

Part of the statement reads: “We have noted with satisfaction the civility and finesse that Senator Abdul’aziz Yari has brought to bear on the campaigns of the All Progressives Congress (APC). As the Director General of the APC presidential campaign council, Yari has ensured that the campaigns are based on issues”.

He insisted that Yari has not created any room for tantrums and hate speech, adding that this is a welcome departure from what used to obtain when partisan campaigners of opposing political parties felt that the only way to sell their parties and their candidates was to abuse and ridicule.

He further explained that as a civilised mind, Yari knows that brickbats do not win elections. He knows that elections are about issues that can improve the lot of the country and its people, and he has remained focused on this productive approach; we commend him for that.

“We are equally delighted about Senator Yari’s nationwide consultations with traditional rulers. In recent weeks, Yari has paid courtesy visits to some traditional rulers across the country. The consultations are still ongoing. So far, we have observed that Yari has, wherever he has gone, spoken to the royal fathers about how to ensure the elections are peaceful.”

According to Oke, Yari’s consultations are about building bridges of understanding, while traditional rulers cannot be ignored in matters that directly impact nation-building.
