Group Demands Probe Into Nurse’s Death At Umahi’s Residence, Urges Gbajabiamila To Step Aside

FCT-OKAY A NEW NIGERIA has called for an immediate and transparent investigation into the death of Mary Habila, a nurse who reportedly died at the Uburu residence of the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, in Ebonyi State.
The group also urged the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, to step aside pending an inquiry into allegations linked to him and Adeniyi Adeyemi, who it described as the Director-General of the alleged fake government agency, the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).

The demands were contained in a statement signed by the Chairman of FCT-OKAY A NEW NIGERIA, Hon. Mathew Chinedu Chukwuemeka, and made available to journalists in Abuja.

According to the group, the reported death of Habila and the controversy surrounding the alleged fake government agency have raised serious concerns about accountability, security and public confidence in government institutions.
It stated that Nigerians deserve clarity on high-profile cases involving public officials, particularly at a time when concerns over governance, security and public welfare remain widespread.

The group called on security agencies to carry out a thorough, transparent and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding Habila’s death to establish the facts, ensure justice and prevent similar incidents in the future.

It also appealed to President Bola Tinubu to relieve Gbajabiamila of his duties pending the outcome of investigations into public concerns relating to the activities of the alleged PFIPC, saying such a step would promote transparency and accountability.
Beyond the calls for investigation, FCT-OKAY A NEW NIGERIA endorsed the presidential ticket of Mr. Peter Obi and Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), describing the duo as capable of addressing insecurity, poverty and what it termed poor governance.

The group also congratulated Obi on his birthday, praising what it described as his resilience despite alleged intimidation and expressing confidence in his political future.
While expressing condolences to the family of Mary Habila, the group prayed for God to grant them the strength to bear the loss.

The organisation further decried what it described as the worsening state of insecurity and the rising cases of kidnapping across the country, urging the federal government and security agencies to intensify efforts to safeguard lives and property.

It warned that if the current administration fails to guarantee the safety and welfare of Nigerians, citizens would have the opportunity to hold leaders accountable during the 2027 general election.

Hon. Chinedu Chukwuemeka reaffirmed the group’s commitment to good governance and citizens’ welfare.
“Leadership is about responsibility, and the people deserve systems that work for them,” he said.

“We trust that the President will take these concerns seriously and act in the best interest of the nation.”
