Group Dismisses Dalung’s Claims Of Insecurity, Says Plateau Is Safe, Peaceful

WThe Plateau Regeneration Group (PRG) has dismissed recent comments by former Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, describing highways in Plateau State as unsafe, insisting that the state remains peaceful and secure.

The group said the former minister’s remarks were misleading and capable of creating unnecessary fear among residents, investors, and visitors.

In a statement signed by its spokesman, Pam Datiri, and made available to journalists in Jos on Sunday, the PRG said the comments do not reflect the current security situation in the state.

It stressed that thousands of residents and travellers move freely across major highways in Plateau State daily without incident, adding that insecurity in isolated areas should not be used to generalise the entire state.

The group noted that although Plateau has experienced security challenges like other parts of the country, normal social and economic activities continue in most communities.

According to the PRG, the administration of Governor Caleb Mutfwang, has prioritised security as a key focus of governance and has strengthened collaboration with security agencies operating in the state.

It said regular security council meetings have improved coordination among security stakeholders, while engagement with traditional rulers, youth leaders, and faith-based organisations has also been enhanced.

The group added that intelligence sharing, early warning systems, and logistical support to security agencies have contributed to improving response to security threats.

PRG maintained that these efforts have helped to strengthen the overall security architecture of the state.

It described Plateau State as one of the most peaceful, scenic, and hospitable destinations in the country, urging political actors and public commentators to be responsible in their statements.

The group warned that unverified claims could create panic, discourage investment, and undermine ongoing peacebuilding efforts.
