A pro-northern group, Arewa Youth Enlightenment Forum has hailed President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing the son of the late governor of Gombe State Dr Umar Abubakar Hashidu as the new managing director of North East Development Commission (NEDC).
The spokesperson of the group, Dunijir Gatama, flanked by other officials and members, made the commendation during a press conference yesterday in Eaman Event Hall in Gombe, Gombe State.
He said the appointment was well deserved in view of the immense contributions made by the late former governor Abubakar Hashidu and the appointee to national development.
According to him, the newly appointed NEDC boss has proven to be a competent and prudent public officer when he headed the Yola Electricity Distribution Company as managing director.
“Dr Umar Abubakar Hashidu is one of the few Nigerians and Gombe State indigenes whose part to greatness was not without traces. He is among the very well experienced young intellectuals we have in Gombe State.
“With Dr Umar Abubakar Hashidu on board at the NEDC, we are sure success is achievable and we are sure the destination will be of a smooth sail knowing his antecedents,” he said.
Another official of the group, Barbuwa Kalla, asked the National Assembly (NASS) to confirm the appointment of Umar as the new NEDC boss “in the best interest of the North East and Nigeria”.
