The Jigawa Education Accountability Forum (JEAF), a state-level accountability mechanism, has commended the state government for its commitment to repositioning the basic education sector to improve foundational skills and learning outcomes.
The JEAF co-chair, Malam Tasi’u Abubakar, made these remarks during an interactive session with journalists in Dutse.
He noted that, based on the group’s independent monitoring and evaluation, there has been a significant improvement in Jigawa’s basic education sector as a result of the commitments made by the administration of Governor Umar Namadi in the past two years.
“The priority accorded by the government to ensure an enabling environment for teaching and learning, as well as involving parents, civil society, and communities in school management, is yielding positive results,” Malam Tasi’u said.
He added that the recent approval of ₦779,269,895 for the purchase of books and other instructional materials to strengthen teaching and learning, as well as for the procurement of 295 motorcycles for hunters to enhance school safety, were commendable steps.
The JEAF co-chairman maintained that the approved interventions align with some of the issues the group had advocated for, describing the government’s response as a welcome development.
The group also commended the intervention and technical assistance from the PLANE programme in supporting the state government and civil society to enhance learning outcomes.
JEAF reiterated its commitment to continuing to collaborate with the government, donor partners, and communities to ensure that everyone plays their expected role in improving accountability mechanisms and achieving sustainable development in the state’s education sector.
