A civil society organisation, the Citizens Watch Advocacy Initiative (CWAI) has lauded the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, citing his transformative impact on Abuja.

In a statement released in Abuja and signed by the executive secretary, Omoba Kenneth Aigbegbele, and director of media of the organisation, Comrade Gabriel Gwajime, it lauded the minister for the timely delivery of development infrastructure and social amenities such as potable water, solar electrification, and enhanced street lighting, marking a significant improvement over the past administrations.

CWAI said Wike, affectionately dubbed “Mr. Projects” during his tenure as governor of Rivers State, has escalated his reformative zeal to the FCT, drawing commendation from politicians, residents, and business visitors alike.

The group highlighted that securing the territory remains a priority for Wike, who plans to introduce advanced security measures including drone surveillance in partnership with Hungary to cover Abuja’s expansive area.

CWAI noted recent elevations in the status of chiefs in various chiefdoms, such as Karu, Kwali, and Yagba, signaling Wike’s commitment to cultural recognition and integration.

It said his decisive actions against land speculators and efforts to reinstate the Abuja Master Plan were also recognized as crucial steps towards sustainable urban development.

CWAI reported that the minister routinely inspects ongoing projects, ensuring adherence to planned schedules and correcting deviations.

It said the pace of infrastructure development under Wike’s administration has been unprecedented, with every sector of the territory experiencing robust construction and rehabilitation activities.

CWAI said this progress is bolstered by Wike’s policy of zero tolerance for corruption and inefficiency, which has significantly enhanced productivity and project delivery.

It said the organisation also addressed the issue of street lighting maintenance, quoting the coordinator of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), Chief Felix Obuah, who expressed dissatisfaction with the current state and urged contractors to improve their services.

Looking ahead, CWAI revealed that several major road projects are nearing completion and are expected to be inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu in May 2024.

CWAI restated its confidence in Wike’s leadership, attributing the rapid developmental strides in Abuja to his rigorous work ethic and extensive experience in public service.
