A group of young Nigerians under the auspices of Unite Nigeria Group has called on Nigerians to support the viable ambition of Hon. Tajudeen Abass to emerge as the 10th Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The leader of the group, former secretary of Ado local government area of Benue state, Prince Oriri Richard, who made this call after the group caucus meeting in Abuja yesterday, described Abbas as a true patriot with a burning desire for unity, progress, and development of Nigeria.

According to Richard, history calls for a government that will unite Nigeria, one that will pledge to make reforming Nigeria’s broken political system a top priority in the coming 10th National Assembly, because the worst period in Nigerian history is the latest sign of a bitterly polarised country.

“As we enter into the 2023 NASS leadership election, the people of Nigeria, especially our elected Representatives who have the mandate of over 200million Nigerians for the election of NASS leadership, must look beyond personal gain and place the unity of Nigeria a top priority by electing Hon. Tajudeen Abbas in the best interest of Nigeria and Nigerians. Competency, capacity, transparency, and commitment to nation-building must be placed above personal interests.

“When former US Defense Secretary, James Mattis was asked in May 2017 about what worried him most in America, he told the New Yorker: “The lack of political unity in America. Today, the lack of political unity in Nigeria and love for our country, has become a threat to the unity and progress of our country. One in five Nigerian politicians now views the other as evil, meaning the unity of Nigeria is already threatened.

“Abbas has all the qualities that can make the 10th NASS all-embracing. He is detribalized, humble, responsive, and a true technocrat with a high level of managerial skill to pilot the affairs of the 10th NASS in the best interest of all sections, ethnic and religious groups in Nigeria.

“If you want to know more about quality leaders in the Nigerian National Assembly, go and ask the Vice Chairmen of Committees of the House. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas is a team player who respects the opinion of all members of his team, including his committee Vice-chairman. His Vice is his second lieutenant as he carries him along in all Committee activities,” he said.

He said that Abbas is the first in the history of Democracy in Nigeria to have sponsored over 75 bills and remain the first in history also to have over 25 of his bills signed into law by the President, that this can only be achieved by someone with the zeal and passion for his Country’s greatness. One that is a complete Democrat with an unbiased relationship among all members of the House.

“He is an educationist and a politician, representing Zaria Federal Constituency in the National Assembly. He obtained a grade II certificate in 1981 from Kaduna Teachers College. In 1988, he became a bachelor’s degree holder in Business Administration from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

“In 1993 he obtained a master’s degree in business administration from the same Institution, ABU Zaria, and in 2010, he completed a Doctorate in Business Management at the Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto. As a lover of education, he started as a primary school teacher from 1981 to 1988 and later became a lecturer at the Polytechnic level before moving to Kaduna State University (KASU) in 1993. From 2001 to 2005, he was a marketing Manager at NTC Plc.

“Hon. Abbas joined politics in 2011 and was elected into the National Assembly and since then, has been representing Zaria Federal Constituency and was re-elected in 2015 under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He is a 4th timer in the National Assembly and has spent 11yrs serving his people and Nigerians in the lower Chamber.

“As a humanist, His legislative interests include Appropriation, Finance, Education, National Planning, Health, and Public Procurement. He is the House Committee Chairman on Land Transport currently,” he said.
