The Unite Nigeria Group has urged support for Hon. Tajudeen Abass to emerge as speaker of the House of Representatives.
The leader of the group, a former secretary of Ado local government area of Benue State, Prince Oriri Richard, who made the call on behalf of the group after their meeting in Abuja yesterday, described Abbas as a true patriot with burning desire for the unity, progress and development of Nigeria.
According to Richard, history calls for a government that will unite Nigeria, one that will reform Nigeria’s political system in the coming 10th National Assembly.
“As we enter the 2023 NASS leadership election, Nigerians, especially our elected representatives, must look beyond personal gains and give the unity of Nigeria a top priority by electing Hon. Tajudeen Abbas. Competence, capacity, transparency, commitment to nation building must be placed above personal interests.
“Today, the lack of political unity in Nigeria and love for our country has become a threat to the unity and progress of the country. One in five Nigerian politicians now view the other as evil, meaning the unity of Nigeria is already threatened.
“Abbas has all the qualities that can make the 10th NASS all-embracing. He is detribalised, humble, responsive, a true technocrat with high level of managerial skills to pilot the affairs of the 10th NASS in the best interest of all sections, ethnic and religious groups in Nigeria.
Hon. Tajudeen Abbas is a team player who respects the opinion of all members of his team, including his committee vice chairman as he carries him along in all committee activities,” he said.
He said that Abbas is the first in the history of democracy in Nigeria to have sponsored over 75 bills and remain the first to have over 25 of his bills signed into law by the president, adding this can only be achieved by someone with the zeal and passion for his country’s greatness.
