A non-governmental organisation (NGO), the Global Association of Female Attorneys (GAFA), has called on good-spirited Nigerians to alleviate the plight of the underprivileged to come out of the present hardships.
The association’s president, Mrs. Chinelo Iriele, made the call at the weekend when she led a delegation to the Saint Mary’s Orphanage in Gwagwalada, Abuja.
Iriele said apart from the donation of food items and money to the orphanage, its duty was also to ensure that the children were catered for and in a good environment.
She stated that the association engages with stakeholders at all levels to advocate for the respect of human rights as well as embark on sensitization on reproductive health and the ills of gender-based violence.
According to her, the association is a movement in which members take advantage of their God-given potential to pursue humanity’s happiness, freedom, prosperity, and safety.
“As a duly registered non-political and non-governmental association under Nigerian law, GAFA has its presence across some states of the federation and has an office in Los Angeles, United States of America.”
Responding, the orphanage representative, Reverend Sister Julia Elochukwu, said they take care of orphans and destitute people, train them to the university level, and called for the support of Nigerians.
Sister Elochukwu, however, expressed the displeasure that some men who brought their babies after the loss of their wives usually abandon them and fail to contribute to their upkeep.
