The Concerned Lokoja Elders Forum (CLEFOR) has called on Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo to take immediate action to prevent any further attempt to undermine the authority of the Maigari of Lokoja, Alhaji Ibrahim Gambo Kabir Maikarfi IV.
Addressing a press a conference in Lokoja, the leader of the group, the Shantali of Lokoja, Alhaji Bala Haruna, said they demand that the authorities uphold the rule of law and protect the rights of the Maigari of Lokoja.
He said the press conference was organised under the auspices of CLEFOR in commemoration of the one year on throne by the Maigari.
He said, “The Maigari of Lokoja remains the sole, legitimate, and revered traditional authority in our city, with a rich history and cultural significance that spans centuries.
“As the paramount traditional ruler of Lokoja, the Maigari’s authority is unquestionable, and his leadership has been instrumental in promoting peace, unity, and progress among our diverse communities.
“We commend the Nupe elders of Lokoja for their swift response in distancing themselves from the illegitimate claims of Mr. Emmanuel Dauda Shelika.
“Their press conference which debunked any role in the creation of Etsu Nupe demonstrated their commitment to uphold the sanctity of our traditional institution.
“We urge all stakeholders, including the state government, traditional leaders and the people of Lokoja local government traditional council to respect the sanctity of our traditional institution and reject any attempts to undermine its authority. We will not stand idly by while our cultural heritage is threatened by individuals driven by personal interests.
“We, the people of Lokoja, are united in our determination to preserve our cultural heritage and traditional institution. We will continue to promote peace, unity, and understanding among our people, and we will not be swayed by the selfish interests of a few individuals.”
Mr. Emmanuel Dauda Shelika had at a press conference last week said he was the Etsu Lokoka Emmanuel Akamisoko Dauda Shelika, Nyamkpa IV and urged the governor to recognise and grade the Etsu stool.
