A non-governmental organisation with focus on promoting good governance and sustainable democracy, Intercontinental Leadership Initiative (ILI) said it has concluded plans to hold its Peace Walk and Dialogue Conference in Abuja.
Initially slated for February 1st and 2nd, the event intends to prepare the minds of Nigerians positively towards the general election and assuage the attacks and counter attacks at campaign rallies and on the media.
Addressing journalists in Abuja, ILI lead trustee, Stafford Jedidiah Bisong said due to some constraints, the group thought it wise to reschedule the event for 5 and 6 April, 2023.
He said, “ILI felt it was not the best for our global image and therefore planned the Peace Walk and Dialogue Conference in partnership with the National Orientation Agency (NOA) and others.
“Our thinking was based on the hiccups caused by the scampering of the US, UK and other European countries withdrawing the citizens of their countries describing Nigeria as unsafe, before, during and after the elections.
“We are however constrained by some factors beyond our control to reschedule the event.”
In our planning, we wrote to all the political parties and their presidential candidates in which we requested for the attendance of the following, national chairmen, woman leaders, youth leaders alongside their presidential candidates as critical stakeholders who were our major targets.
“Also, we were yet to get clearance from the police for the peace walk. It is however unfortunate that till this moment, none of them had responded to our invitation letters, considering the forgoing, we therefore thought it wise to reschedule the event for 5 and 6 April 2023”, he added.
