The immediate past governorship candidate of the Labour Party, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour has left the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kosofe rattled after the successfultake-off of his groundbreaking health insurance initiative aimed at providing much-needed support to the less fortunate in the community.
Rhodes-Vivour, who missed out on becoming the Governor of Lagos State in the previous election, has wasted no time in putting his political weight behind a transformative healthcare project. The initiative, aptly named “Health for All Kosofe,” seeks to bridge the healthcare gap in the neglected community by providing affordable and accessible health insurance to the economically disadvantaged.
The launch event, which took place in Kosofe saw Rhodes-Vivour outline the key components of the initiative, which include subsidizing premiums for low-income households, establishing community health centers, and forging partnerships with local healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive coverage.
Rhodes-Vivour’s speech resonated deeply with the audience, many of whom had been struggling to access quality healthcare due to financial constraints. The former Labour Party candidate emphasized the importance of healthcare as a basic human right, vowing to make it a reality for the people of Kosofe.
Local reactions have been mixed, with some praising Rhodes-Vivour’s commitment to social welfare and healthcare access, while others view his move as a political maneuver to maintain relevance in the post-election landscape. The APC, which currently holds power in Kosofe, has been notably taken aback by the swiftness and impact of this initiative.
Analysts suggest that Rhodes-Vivour’s foray into healthcare could disrupt the local political scene and potentially pave the way for a resurgence of the Labour Party or other opposition groups in the area. The APC, now under increased scrutiny, may face mounting pressure to respond with its initiatives to address the healthcare challenges facing Kosofe.
According to Morris Monye,
a member of the Labour Party and a volunteer at the event disclosed that
Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour’s bold move into healthcare has undoubtedly set the stage for a new kind of people-centric politics void of tokenism, With the kinds of commendation and prayers we have been getting, this initiative promises to be a turning point in the local narrative of not just Kosofe but the entire Lagos politics, he concluded.
