An official of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), who preferred anonymity, confirmed the abduction to journalists in Akure.

“One of our members from Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko by name Mr Omoniyi Eleyinmi (Faculty Officer, Faculty of Education) has been kidnapped at his residence this evening, Monday, 4th August, 2025 at Supare-Akoko around 7:00pm.

“According to his wife, he was not at home when the gunmen arrived at his residence and started opening fire but unfortunately, he arrived when the gunmen were still around and were immediately carried away by the gunmen,” the staff said.

Confirming the incident, Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ayanlade Olushola, said two staff of the institution were initially kidnapped, but a swift response from police operatives led to the rescue of one of the victims.
