Gunmen have abducted the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ikom local government area of Cross River State, Mr Mathew Egomo and his son.

He was whisked away by suspected kidnappers along with his son on Ikom-Ogoja Road on Sunday. The scene was  a stone throw to Afi River at Nde Three Corners Community which is a few kilometres to  Ikom council secretariat.

Speaking on the development with LEADERSHIP, the special adviser to the governor on security matters, Mr Patrick Bassey, advised residents of the state to form vigilance groups to complement the efforts of the police in tackling criminality.

In a telephone conversation with the police deputy public relations officer, Igiri Ewa, he said the command was yet to confirm the kidnap incident. He said the victims would be rescued once the police begin to extend their dragnet.
