Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers, on Friday night, shot two travellers dead and kidnapped five others including a Corps member along Ifon-Owo highway in Ose local government area of Ondo State
LEADERSHIP gathered that other victims of the attack escaped with various degrees of injuries.
It was learnt that the suspected kidnappers, numbering about 15, armed with AK-47 rifles, had ambushed the commuters at about 11pm on Friday night at Omi Alafa village in Ifon, Ose LGA.
The situation was said to have created tension among residents and travellers along the expressway throughout the night.
A source informed LEADERSHIP that members of the community, who witnessed the incident, reported to the Police how the commuters were ambushed by the suspected kidnappers who fired sporadically at the Sienna bus in which they were travelling.
The source further disclosed that the vehicle was coming from Anambra State with passengers heading to Owo and Akure in Ondo State before the hoodlums attacked them.
It was also learnt that the corpses of the driver and a female passenger occupying the front seat had been deposited at the morgue of Adelabu Hospital in Ifon.
The Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), Fumilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, confirmed the incident.
Odunlami-Omisanya said the State Police Command cannot ascertain the exact number of victims, who escaped the attack, as at the time of this report .
The PPRO, however, hinted that, “Our men are fully on the ground, combing the forest to ensure that the kidnapped victims are rescued.”
