Gunmen Kill 20, Raze Houses In Plateau Villages

Over 20 persons have been killed with several houses burnt in an attack by militiamen in Jebu, Tahos community of Riyom local government area in Plateau State.

Sources from the community said the gunmen stormed the locality and shot sporadically into late Monday night.

It was gathered that some persons who sustained injuries were receiving treatment in some undisclosed hospitals.

The chairman and publicity secretary of the Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM) in a

statement signed by Gideon Manjal and Gadu Daniel Dong, respectively, said the assailants stormed the village at about 11pm and carried out a house-to-house attack, killing innocent people including women, children and the aged who could not escape.

They called on security operatives to ensure that the perpetrators of the dastardly acts were brought to book.

The group also called on President Bola Tinubu and the national security adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, to order a high-level intervention and military operation to dismantle the known terrorist enclaves threatening Plateau’s peace.

“Our people are being buried daily. We are tired of condolence visits and silence. We are tired of press statements that do not translate to protection.

“The community of Ta-Hoss like Jol, Rim, Bachi, Wereng, Nding, and other previously hit deserve more than sympathy, They deserve security, dignity, and justice,” they added.

Efforts to reach security operatives for further information about the attack were unsuccessful as of the time of filling this report.

LEADERSHIP reports that Berom Youth Moulders (BYM) has confirmed the killing of three persons by suspected Fulani armed group on Sunday afternoon when they attacked the natives of Gwon village in Riyom LGA of Plateau State.

BYM in a statement jointly signed by the national president Barr. Solomon Mwantiri and secretary general Bature Adazaram said  the attack on law abiding citizens is in fulfillment of the orchestrated agenda of the herdsmen.
