The gunmen invaded the Wisdom Supermarket in One-man Village near Mararaba at about 8:45pm, shooting sporadically, witnesses said.

On gaining access into the supermarket, the assailants opened fire at those within the vicinity killing four persons in the process.

Our correspondent gathered that those who lost their lives in the melee were customers who were doing late evening shopping.

The development, it was further learnt, forced other shop owners to close down and flee for their lives.

The Nasarawa Police Command through its public relations officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel confirmed the development.

He said men of the command in a nearby station received a distress call over the attack at about 8:45pm.

He explained that four well-armed hoodlums entered the supermarket and opened fire on the customers who were on ground shopping.

According to him, the command mobilized its men to the scene, but said that by the time the operatives got there, the hoodlums had escaped.

“Our men recovered the four corpses and took them to a nearby hospital where they were confirmed dead by the doctor on duty, and their remains were deposited at the morgue.

“Following the development, the commissioner of police directed the deputy commissioner of police in charge of investigation to move to the area with a view to carry out a comprehensive investigation on the matter,” he stated.
