Gunmen have killed a 70-year-old Reverend Fr. Mimang Lekyil at Kwakas Community in Mushere District of Bokkos local government area of Plateau State.
Aside from the slain cleric, two women including the wife of the deceased and her sister were injured in the process, with both currently receiving treatment at Alheri Nursing Home in Dung Community.
An eyewitness from the community told newsmen that the gunmen, alleged to be kidnappers attacked the victim’s house around 9pm on Sunday night just as the occupants of the house were about to sleep.
A resident of Bokkos, Bishop Ayuba Matawal, who also confirmed the incident said the two women were earlier kidnapped but were rescued by local vigilante and youths in the area.
“Yes, the incident happened. They shot the Reverend Fr. The two women in the house – his wife and a visitor were kidnapped, but later rescued by residents of the area who mobilised to trail the assailants,” Matawal said.
He further stated that the corpse of the deceased 70-year-old has been deposited at Luna Mortuary in Bokkos.
Spokesperson of Operation Safe Haven, Major Samson Zhakom has not responded to inquiry on the incident by our correspondent at the time of filing this report.
