Gunmen invaded Ora Igbomina, a border community in Ifedayo Local Government Area of Osun State, late Monday, killing a resident and abducting Mr Emmanuel Owolabi, a retired Customs officer.
The wife of the customs officer, Mrs Titilayo Owolabi, who confirmed the abduction of her husband on Monday evening, said her husband was at his shop at about 4 pm, after which he left for home before falling into the hands of the attackers.
Mrs Owolabi narrated that the gunmen who stormed Akisa Road in Ora threw the town into panic as gunshots rang out during the operation.
During the attack, the bandits were also said to have killed the leader of non-indigenes in Ora, an incident that further heightened fear and tension among residents.
Travellers along the Oteere Ila/Ora axis were also reportedly shot at by the assailants as they attempted to flee the scene, leaving several people injured and causing motorists to abandon the route.
Local security guards and community vigilantes who attempted to repel the attackers and protect residents were overwhelmed by the heavily armed bandits.
The Osun State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that efforts were underway to rescue the abducted ex-custom officer.
Residents of Ora Igbomina have called on the Osun State Government and security agencies to provide urgent assistance and strengthen security in the area.
They appealed for increased patrols, deployment of security personnel, and decisive action to rescue the abducted former Customs officer and prevent further attacks on the community.
