Students of the School of the Gifted in Gwagwalada area council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), are overflowing with gratitude for the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, who has significantly improved their school’s condition.

It could be recalled that the minister who had visited the school last year to inaugurate a project, surprised both the school authorities and students by announcing plans to renovate the school to match its prestigious status.

The students praised the minister for renovating school facilities, which, according to them, has made the learning environment more conducive and enjoyable.

While expressing their excitement over the renovations, the students also urged the minister to consider adding more chairs, solar lighting systems, and modern books to their library to complete the enhancements.

A recent visit to the school revealed a striking transformation, previously dilapidated structures have been revitalised, along with various other facilities.

The Head Girl, Taofeequyah Abdulrahman, “I am truly thrilled with the renovations that have taken place. If you had seen the school before, you would understand how urgently it needed improvement.

“Now, the school looks appealing, from the fresh paint to the upgraded structures. It brings joy to see our gifted school in such a state.

“We can now learn and focus in a conducive environment. To Honourable Minister, Nyesom Wike, we the students are immensely grateful for the facelift you have given to our school. This has helped us significantly and has raised our standards.”

However, the head girl also requested the minister to consider providing more chairs for their classrooms.

“At times, two students share one chair due to a shortage, and some chairs are already broken, which can be dangerous during class.

“We also face power outages, especially when studying at night. Solar lamps would ensure a consistent power supply, and we hope the minister can consider these requests as part of his ongoing improvements,” she said.

Also, the school’s head boy, Binuyo Dabira Goodnews, who recently represented Nigeria in an international mathematics competition, also expressed appreciation for Wike’s contributions.

“We sincerely thank Minister Nyesom Wike for his efforts. Before the renovations, over 600 students would wait in the sun outside the dining room for meals.

“Many students wouldn’t get served, but thanks to the minister’s intervention, we can now all enter and be seated to eat at the same time. New curtains have been installed, and fans are now functioning effectively in classrooms and hostels,” he said.

The library prefect, Ikenta Ifechukwu Belina, also shared her excitement about the revamped library: “The school library looks amazing now, with fresh paint and clean walls that create a comfortable atmosphere for reading. However, we urgently need new and modern books, along with digital materials to keep up with the digital age.”

She also pointed out that the school lacks a bus: “We often participate in competitions, and a school bus would greatly facilitate our travel for these events,” she pleaded.
