The Gwandu emirate council in Kebbi State has announced the commencement of its annual horse racing and cultural festival scheduled to hold between Monday November 18 to Saturday November 23, 2024.
The announcement was made by the chief coordinator of the events in the emirate, Mustapha Usman Ka’oje during a news conference held in his office in Birnin Kebbi .
According to him, the event will commence with an agricultural trade fair at Haliru Abdu Stadium on Monday, November 18, followed by cultural sports and the opening of horse racing at Emir Muhammadu Iliyasu Bashar Race Course in the state capital, Birnin Kebbi, from November 19 to Friday, November 22, for Grand Durbar before the Grand finale of horse racing on Saturday, November 23.
Ka’oje further disclosed that people from Dubai , Niger, Benin Republic and other African countries are expected to attend the racing.
He noted that at the end of the final event, trophies and other gifts will be given to the top five winners.
The coordinator commended Governor Nasir Idris for reviving the event and thanked the Gwandu emir for choosing him to head and coordinate the programme.
