As part of measures to minimise the current effects of economic hardship faced by residents in the area, Bariga local council development area has commenced payment of N20,000 cash intervention to 1,000 residents.
Commenting on the development, the chairman of the council development area, Hon. Kolade Alabi David disclosed that the initiative is the first phase of the palliative initiative, saying the local government will kick off with another 1,000 beneficiaries to relieve the residents of the present hard times.
He stated, “This is the first phase and we are going to do another 1,000 as this will continue, as long as we still have these hardship issues.
“I believe Nigeria’s economic problem will soon be abated. I am sure that in six months, we believe in the President fixing the economy and things will be better than he met them.
He added, “One of the functions of Local Government is to provide succour to our people and we have intervention programmes in some areas of government activities, as the prices of food have skyrocketed some due to economic problems but some are man-made by our people.
“As a government, what we have done is to initiate and conceptualise ideas to provide succour to our people.
“Not only on cash disbursement but also in terms of providing health care for our people, we want to take care of 100 women in terms of delivery, provide 1,000 health schemes for our people, and in pupils in primary schools we are to provide text and exercise books for the indigents.’’
