The Presidency has reaffirmed the President Bola Tinubu administration’s commitment to upholding citizens’ rights to peaceful protest.

Presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, while speaking on a programme on TVC on Sunday night monitored by our correspondent, emphasised that no official within the current administration has the authority to prevent Nigerians from exercising their right to demonstrate peacefully in any part of the country.

“There is nobody within our administration that has the standing or command to tell any Nigerian that they can’t peacefully protest or in any part of the country,” the Presidential spokesman declared.

He further added, “We are in office to serve, not dominate our people.”

LEADERSHIP reports that some highly-placed government officials, traditional and religious leaders, and groups have been condemning or discouraging organisers of the planned nationwide protests against hardship and hunger slated for August 1.
