Born and raised in Nigeria, Dr. Ibrahim Omoyayi has always been driven by a passion to improve lives through science. With a PhD in Biomedical Engineering and over eight years of experience in drug delivery systems, artificial intelligence, and pharmaceutical formulation, he has emerged as a dynamic voice in global health innovation.

Now based in the United States, Dr. Omoyayi is pioneering technologies that not only shape the future of medicine but are directly impacting communities back home in Africa. One of his most significant achievements is the development of IoE-TB, the first AI-powered Internet of Everything platform for early detection of tuberculosis.

In a recent peer-reviewed study published in Applied Artificial Intelligence, Dr. Omoyayi and his team introduced a convolutional neural network (CNN)-based model that can analyze chest X-rays with high accuracy, detecting TB in its early stages—particularly in remote or underserved areas where access to radiologists is limited.

This groundbreaking tool has already been used by over 500,000 individuals across Nigeria and parts of Sub-Saharan Africa, making TB screening faster, more accurate, and more accessible for frontline healthcare workers and local clinics.

“AI is no longer a futuristic concept—it’s a real, impactful tool that can save lives today,” says Dr. Omoyayi. “We have to make it accessible in the places where it’s needed most.”

The success of IoE-TB has sparked interest from public health agencies, NGOs, and researchers looking to scale the model as part of national TB control programs. It demonstrates the critical role of technology in closing diagnostic gaps in infectious diseases.

Dr. Omoyayi’s work stands as a compelling example of how Nigerian scientists in the diaspora are not only advancing global research but also working to bring life-saving technology back to their communities, bridging innovation with impact where it matters most.
