Health Reporters’ Network Inaugurated In Kano

The International Society of Media in Public Health (ISMPH) has inaugurated a group of health journalists under the aegis of Kano Health Journalists Network (KAHJON) to strengthen healthcare advocacy in the state.

During the ceremony in Kano, ISMPH programme director, Solomon Dogo, said the new platform was established to bring together health reporters under a unified structure that would enhance coordinated coverage of health programmes and interventions.

Dogo explained that the network would serve as a vehicle for promoting informed reporting and advocacy on critical public health concerns, including polio eradication, maternal and child health, nutrition, and primary healthcare delivery.

According to him, the initiative is expected to consolidate existing health journalism platforms in the state, foster collaboration and improve engagement with government agencies, development partners, and communities on health-related issues.

Dogo also noted that similar health journalists’ networks are already operational in Lagos and Kaduna states, adding that development partners remain committed to supporting media-driven health advocacy initiatives across the country.

In her remarks, ISMPH Programme Officer in Kano, Sabuwa Yahaya, said the platform would improve coordination among health reporters, enhance access to credible health information, and strengthen evidence-based reporting.

She added that the network would provide a stronger voice for advocacy aimed at improving health outcomes and promoting greater accountability in the sector.
