One of the most memorable openings in Nigerian music has finally found its owner.

Comedian and actress Helen Paul has revealed that she was the voice behind the famous “Uncle, please tell us a story” intro in P-Square’s classic hit, Story, adding that she was never paid for the recording.

Speaking in a recent interview, Helen Paul disclosed that her contribution went beyond the opening line. She said she also recorded the children’s repeated “Thank you” responses heard throughout the song, changing her voice several times to make it sound like different children were speaking.

“I did the ‘Uncle, please tell us a story.’ Then I also did the ‘Thank you’ parts using different voices. They matched all the different children’s voices, so it sounded full,” she said.

According to the media personality, the recording was done years before she and the award-winning duo became household names.

Her revelation has surprised many fans who have listened to Story for years without knowing the voice behind one of the song’s most iconic moments.
