Herbert Wigwe, Wife, Child, Ogunbajo Die In Chopper Crash

The chief executive officer of Access Holdings Plc, Herbert Wigwe has died after a chopper he was aboard crashed in California, United States Friday night.

The helicopter was reportedly heading to Las Vegas when it crashed near a border city between Nevada and California at about 10pm on Friday killing five other passengers on board.

His wife, child and also a former group chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group, Abimbola Ogunbanjo were said to have been with him on the trip.

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) disclosed that a helicopter crashed Friday nightnear Nipton, California, with six people on board.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement that no survivor has been found as of yesterday morning. The FAA identified the helicopter as a Eurocopter EC 130.

“We were made aware of a downed aircraft at approximately 10:12pm on February 10, 2024. The scene of the crash was determined to be east of the 15-Freeway, near Halloran Springs Road,” the sheriff’s department said.

Meanwhile, no agency or investigation has reported the cause of the crash.

Wigwe was a Nigerian banker and entrepreneur. He was recognised as the African Banker of the Year at the 2021 edition of the African Bankers Awards.

There was however no official statement from the bank or his family about his demise as at the time of this report.
