Suspected Sullubawa herdsmen on Wednesday attacked an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), ASC1 Aisami Kachallah of Agro Rangers unit, in Kunnari Village, situated in the Damaturu local government area of Yobe State.
Confirming the incident to LEADERSHIP Friday, the Assistant State Commandant Agro Rangers unit of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), ACC Isa Ahmad Michika Hou, said it happened about 10am on October 29, 2025.
Hou said the corps received information that a large group of Sulubawa Herders trespassed into farmland belonging to residents of Kunnari village, Damaturu Local Government Area of Yobe State.
He said the herders threatened the villages with bows and arrows, creating tension and panic in the entire area.
He added that a confrontation ensued with the villagers which resulted in one civil defence officer, ASC1Aisami Kachalla, being injured with a cutlass by one of the herders.
Hou said,“So far, we have arrested five Sullubawa Herders suspected and recorded many cows cattle rustlers connection with the attack.”
It was learnt that the timely intervention of the villagers prevented the situation from escalating further and possibly leading to the officer’s death.
Also, speaking, one of the community residents, who pleaded anonymity, said the herdsmen stormed the community on Wednesday and allowed their cows to feed on farm produce, a development that scared the people in the farming community who fled the area for fear of attack.
LEADERSHIP Friday gathered that the injured officer is currently receiving medical treatment at the General Hospital in Damaturu, the Yobe State Capital.
