Hilda Effiong Bassey, known as Hilda Baci and the Guinness world record holder, recently shared her perspective on Nigerians attempting to surpass her achievement.
During an interview with CNN, she expressed how she feels like a trailblazer following the numerous attempts made to break her record.
According to her, this signifies that she has sparked a trend and inspired others to follow in her footsteps.
Hilda stated, “I believe I initiated a movement or acted as a trailblazer because only a true trailblazer can initiate something that others aspire to do.”
She further explained, “The reason behind this is the success of my record-breaking feat. It was executed with great precision and witnessing its excellence has motivated others to think, ‘I want to try this too.’ This simply means that I have ignited a sense of inspiration.”
Following Hilda’s remarkable record, Nigerians have flooded the internet with their own attempts to achieve world records in various fields.
Commenting on this ongoing trend, the renowned chef emphasized, “Through social media and news coverage, we are witnessing individuals striving to break Guinness Records. Additionally, people are also breaking barriers in their personal lives and businesses. Therefore, I believe I have motivated numerous individuals to surpass their own limitations.”
In May 2023, Hilda accomplished her record-breaking feat by cooking continuously for an astounding 93 hours and 11 minutes. Her four-day cooking marathon took place in Lekki, Lagos State, and garnered immense support from Nigerians both locally and internationally. Supporters, ranging from ordinary citizens to influential figures, showed up daily to cheer her on. Hilda prepared over 100 servings of food, which she distributed to the attendees of the event.
In June, Hilda officially received certification from the Guinness World Records, solidifying her position as the new record holder. Since then, she has continued to climb the ladder of success, embracing new opportunities that come her way.
