Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested 10 persons in Kano metropolis for allegedly violating the Ramadan fast, selling food items during fasting hours and loitering.
The arrests followed an early-morning raid on Wednesday, shortly after the start of the holy month of Ramadan.
A statement issued by the director of Public Enlightenment of the board, Auwalu Ado Sheshe, said the operation was led by the officer-in-charge of Operations, Malam Hafizu Garba Adakawa.
According to the statement, eight youths were apprehended at different locations for allegedly failing to observe the Ramadan fast.
The affected areas include Kantin Kwari, Grand Central Hotel Street, Railway area, Unguwar Danmaliki, Ibrahim Taiwo Road and Obasanjo Road.
The Board also arrested a food vendor, identified as Murna Audu, and a sugarcane seller, Abubakar Tukur, at ‘Yan Rake, Kofar Kansakali, for allegedly selling food during fasting hours.
In a related development, two young women aged 16 and 20 were arrested along Nassarawa Hospital Road for alleged loitering.
The statement added that the suspects expressed remorse over their actions and pleaded for forgiveness, promising not to repeat the offences.
The Hisbah Board warned that it would intensify its enforcement operations against individuals engaging in what it described as immoral acts, particularly within motor parks across the metropolis.
It further urged ward heads and members of the public to report immoral activities within their neighbourhoods to enable prompt action.
The Board reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring compliance with Islamic moral conduct across the state, especially during the Ramadan period.
