The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested eight young women and one man for alleged loitering and soliciting during a raid conducted across major roads and neighbourhoods in the state capital.

The Deputy Commander-General of Hisbah, Dr. Mujahiddeen Aminuddeen, who disclosed this to journalists, said the operation targeted identified “black spots” known for late-night loitering and soliciting.

According to him, the arrests were made along the road leading to the Kano Zoo, Banana Zoo Road, Ahmadu Bello Way, Lamido Crescent Way, Tukur Road in Nasarawa GRA, Lodge Road in Nasarawa GRA, the road leading to Nasarawa Hospital, Magajin Rumfa Road, Sultan Road in Nasarawa GRA, and Audu Bako Way, all in Kano city.

Dr. Aminuddeen noted that some of the areas, including Ahmadu Bello Way and Lamido Crescent, are traditionally quiet and highbrow neighbourhoods but have recently emerged as hotspots for late-night activities.

“We arrested eight females and one male. It is unfortunate that some of them are teenagers,” he said, expressing concern over the situation.

He called on parents to take greater responsibility for monitoring of their children, especially during the festive season.

“I urge parents to closely watch their wards and ensure they are not roaming the streets at night,” he added.

Dr. Aminuddeen said investigations into the matter were ongoing, and appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the law.
