Hoodlums Attack Customs Outstation In Kebbi, Command Condemns Act

Hoodlums in large number have attacked Customs Outstation In Yauri under Yauri Local Government Area of Kebbi State and vandalised a vehicle and other facilities belonging to the Outstation.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the attack was as a result of when a combined team of Yauri outstation and surveillance were informed of a suspected smuggling activity at Yauri Waterside. Upon arriving at the scene, 41 bags of foreign parboiled rice were seized, secured, and taken to the customs outstation.

Afterwards, a mob attack was launched by the aggrieved smugglers by way of mobilising hoodlums to attack the outpost.

During the attack, the OiC sustained a hand injury; 1 AK47 rifle was carted away but retrieved shortly; and 29 out of 41 bags of the seized rice were taken away by the attackers.

The hoodlums however vandalised the OiC personal vehicle, the outstation ACs, chairs, tables, windows, doors, and other essentials facilities belonging to the outstation.

Kebbi State governor, Nasir Idris who visited the scene of the incident solicited for calm and normalcy has since been restored.

The state Customs Area Controller, Iheanacho Ernest Ojike, who Condemned the attack in a statement through his Spokesman, Mohammed Tajuddeen Salisu who issued to Journalists in Birnin Kebbi however indicated that some arrests have been made and an investigation was launched in view of arresting and prosecuting the criminals.
