The Public Relations Officer of the FCT Emergency Management (FEMA), Nkechi Isa, confirmed the incident.

Mrs Isa said men of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), who were deployed to contain the fire, were attacked by the hoodlums, who were looting the burning store.

In a video that has gone viral on social media, passersby were also seen running for safety while others lamented as they watched helplessly while the edifice was on fire.

“Hoodlums attacked men of the Federal Fire Service who were sent to quench the fire, so they had to request reinforcement from the Police and NSCDC,” the FEMA spokesperson said.

She said although the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained, efforts were made to put it out.
