Three persons have been murdered by hoodlums in Orumba-North local government area of Anambra State.
The victims included an operative of a joint security team, a legal practitioner and one other person. Their killings took place during two separate attacks launched by hoodlums at Nanka and Isuofia communities respectively in Orumba-North LGA on Thursday.
The attack which claimed the life of a member of a joint security team occurred at a security checkpoint in Isuofia, the hometown of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, where a gang of hoodlums engaged the security team in a gun duel at night.
They killed one of the police personnel, but lost two of their members to the superior fire power of the security team.
The PPRO of the state command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said, though the hoodlums burnt one of the operational vehicles of the security team, the police recovered a sienna bus belonging to the hoodlums after some of them escaped with bullet injuries.
Again, sadly, earlier that day, a lawyer and one person identified as his client were also gruesomely killed somewhere at Nanka as they were returning from the Ekwulobia High Court 2 where the lawyer was said to have secured a bail for his client who was standing trial bothering on murder charges.
The lawyer identified as Barrister Rolex, a former president-general of Aguleri Town Union, Anambra East local government area and one of his clients were double-crossed by gun-wielding bandits riding on a motorbike and were instantly killed.
Ikenga said that a Toyota Camry car belonging to one of the victims was later recovered from the scene of the attack and that some family members of those killed had already identified them as their relations.
He also disclosed that the commissioner of police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has deployed intelligent operatives of the command to fish out the perpetrators of the crimes to face the full weight of the law.
