No fewer than 60 female farmers from four local government areas of Minjibir, Kumbotso, Rimin Gado, and Dawakin Tofa in Kano State are benefiting from a partnership between HortiNigeria and Indorama Eleme Fertiliser Company for improved agricultural productivity.

The collaboration focuses on equipping women with insights into soil health, a move that aims to improve farming practices, yields, and environmental preservation.

The programme assists farmers in collecting soil samples from their fields, which undergo detailed analysis to identify nutrient deficiencies and fertility levels. Thus, farmers can make informed decisions about the specific fertilisers required to ensure higher productivity while reducing environmental impact.

The initiative also involved a farmers’ meeting led by a dedicated field officer from Indorama at a session where participants received personalised soil health scorecards, translating complex scientific findings into easy-to-understand recommendations.

According to a statement from the company, the grassroots approach empowers farmers to implement the suggestions effectively, optimising yields and minimising costs.

One beneficiary, Ramlat Umar from Kumbotso, described the programme as life-changing: “Before this, we just guessed what our soil needed. Now, I know exactly what to do.”

The initiative boosts productivity and fosters confidence and resilience among female farmers, who play a crucial role in food production in their communities.

The collaboration is expected to harness the power of partnerships in driving innovation and resilience in agriculture by empowering women farmers with actionable knowledge and tools to build healthier soils, stronger communities and sustainable harvests for the future.
