Following the overhauling of the Taraba State Specialist Hospital, which led to the closure of the facility, the state government has identified suitable hospitals and medical facilities in Jalingo, the state capital to provide healthcare services to the people.
The identified facilities, which comprises of both public and private hospitals are expected to provide, most especially specialised and/or critical services of urgent attention within the period under review.
Governor Agbu Kefas had last week approved the abrupt closure of the hospital temporarily as a result of the ongoing renovation works.
Some of the facilities visited by the governor and his team included the Muhammadu Buhari Mother and Child Hospital, Sabon Gari; Jaji Memorial Hospital and Maternity, Sabon Gari; the Federal Medical Centre (FMC); as well as the Catholic and Methodist Hospitals, among others all in Jalingo.
LEADERSHIP reports that, at each of the facility, Governor Kefas paid keen attention to the infrastructure to determine their capacity, equipment, manpower, and their readiness to treat special cases that would have been handled by the Specialist Hospital.
The governor, who at the weekend inspected some of the selected facilities in Jalingo, in company of top government officials, assured residents of his administration’s efforts across all sectors to alleviate the hardships faced by the people.
The initiative, according to the governor, was part of the measures to ensure uninterrupted specialist healthcare services for residents of the state, as well as to determine suitable locations for the delivering of such services.
The governor further assured residents that, he remains committed to providing quality healthcare services, such that no patient would be denied access to specialist care when the renovation work is completed.
He explained that, the overhauling was intended to upgrade the facility to meet modern healthcare standards, hence the temporary arrangements necessary to ensure continuity of medical services across the state.
Governor Kefas, therefore directed the state commissioner for Health to engage with the management of the identified hospitals to fine-tune modalities for effective collaboration.
