The chairman of the House Representatives Committee on sports, Hon. Ekene Adams Abubakar, has re-emphasized the importance of peace for achieving any meaningful sports development in the country.
The lawmaker stated this while interacting with the Nigerian sporting newsmen on Monday in Abuja, saying no nation can make significant progress without peace and urged the stakeholders to embrace peace and work together to bring back the lost glory of Nigerian sports.

He said the era of bickering, bitterness and working at cross purposes was over as the new House of Representatives committee on sports under his leadership will work tirelessly to bring all the stakeholders and associations together.

“We should all come together to forge a new direction for our sports. We have to work together with the executive and all stakeholders to actualize our collective  dreams. Sports can only thrive when there is peace and harmony among the stakeholders. So, we must embrace peace in sports to achieve meaningful development.
“Sports unites us as a people, so we should deploy it to foster peace, unity, progress and development of our great country. Having played the game to the highest level, administered it as a club owner, I feel the pains of all stakeholders. Let’s put the past bad experiences behind us and focus on a bright future,” Adams said.
The former general manager of Remo Stars FC also assured his committee will work closely with the executive to ensure that the two bills seeking to establish the National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Federal University of Sports passed by the 9th Assembly are signed into law by the President.
He said NSC, when established, would be charged with the responsibility of administering, encouraging and developing sports and will impact greatly on Nigeria’s youths who aspire to become successful sportsmen and women.
