House Committee Expresses Confidence In Army Over Insecurity

The chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream), Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere Ikeagwunu, has expressed confidence in the capability of the Nigerian Army to check the security challenges currently being experienced in the country.

Hon. Ikeagwunu made the assertion when he led other members of the committee to the office of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja on a courtesy visit at the weekend.

In a statement by the director, Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen Onyema Nwachukwu, Ikeagwunu commended the COAS for taking the right steps in dealing with security challenges in the effort to ensure peace and stability in the nation.

He assured the COAS of the committee’s readiness to partner the Army in protecting national economic interests and the nation’s territorial integrity.

He noted with satisfaction, the declaration of Army’s readiness and zeal by the COAS to confront security challenges in troubled parts of the country.

Responding, the COAS thanked the members  for the visit and the confidence in the Army’s capability to restore sanity in troubled areas of the country.

Gen. Lagbaja assured members of the committee that all troubled areas had been mapped out and were receiving due attention, adding  that the Army would continue to raise both its kinetic and non kinetic operations to keep the country safe and secure.

He expressed the readiness of the Army under his command to continue to partner the legislature and other critical stakeholders to achieve its constitutional responsibilities.
