Lagos State government has stressed the need for occupants of its estates to embrace maintenance culture in relation to housing assets, whether public or private, to avoid decay of infrastructure and ensure that investments in real estates are well protected for maximum value.

The state’s Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, who stated this at a two-day annual management retreat of the Ministry of Housing held recently in Abeokuta, added that the initiatives of the Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu led administration to establish an efficient facility management system is a legacy that must be protected.

While reiterating the importance of the theme “Enhancing Service Delivery for Sustainable Housing Development and Management” the Commissioner stated that “deepening the capacity of the management staff is a strategy to improve operational effectiveness, reinforce leadership efficiency as well as ensure performance driven engagement’’.

The Commissioner for Urban and Physical Planning in Ogun State, Tpl. Tunji Odunlami, who once served as a Permanent Secretary in Lagos State Ministry of Housing, in his goodwill message, acknowledged Lagos State government’s strides in the built sector and noted that Ogun State continues to leverage on the successes recorded in Lagos State.

He emphasised the importance of Public-Private Partnerships (PPP), exchange of ideas and full interaction between Lagos and Ogun State on housing provision.

Earlier, the permanent secretary, Ministry of Housing, Engr Abdulhafis Toriola, outlined key milestones achieved by the Ministry, attributing its progress to the unwavering support of the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

He further disclosed that the ministry is set to commission four additional housing estates before the end of 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to expand access to decent and affordable housing in Lagos State.

Toriola reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to ensuring that every Lagosian has access to affordable and quality housing.
