A six-year-old boy, Friday Oshodi, was buried alive for allegedly stealing N1,000 in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, on Tuesday.

The incident was said to have occurred in Apamsede community, near the 12 Brigade Headquarters of the Nigeria Army in Lokoja.

The minor was buried alive by his older brother, Goodness Oshodi, around the bushy area close to the community.

An eyewitness told LEADERSHIP that the mother of the boys ordered the older one to punish the younger son after realising that her money was missing from where she kept it.

The older brother, Goodness, was said to have consequently carried the boy to the bush, dug a hole and buried him alive, and then went back home.

The eyewitness explained that the cry of the little boy drew the attention of the people who were around the bush, who promptly rescued him and carried him home.

When contacted, the Kogi State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Willy Aya, confirmed the incident and said that the suspect had been arrested and was undergoing interrogation.

The Police spokesman, however, said the minor had stolen some household items and ran away from home for about two months only to resurface on Tuesday to steal another N10,000 which made the mother to instruct her oldest son to discipline the boy.

Contrary to the confession of the older brother in a viral video that his younger actually stole N1,000 to warrant the unusual punishment, the Police authorities said that it was N10,000 and not N1,000 that got the minor into trouble.
