The state government deliberated upon the matter, x-rayed the need to have a government-owned university in Okunland and immediately set up an implementation committee chaired by Olu Obafemi, a renowned Professor of English Language.

At the exco meeting, Governor Bello directed the state attorney-general and commissioner for justice to transmit the bill to the House of Assembly for consideration and passage into law and following a debate, public hearing and analysis of the Bill, legislators considered it for the third reading and thereafter passed it into law. The same bill was transmitted to the executive arm of the state government for ascent.

The leadership and strategic decision-making strategies have not only transformed dreams into reality but also benefited the broader society. Moreover, the establishment of the university marks a turning point in the history of Okunland, bringing about a new era of educational empowerment, growth, prosperity, and intellectual enlightenment.

Funding the three state-owned universities was part of the issues raised by the general public but the state had maintained that funding of the three universities is driven by a commitment to innovation, community development, and education. These institutions would play a crucial role in shaping not only the future of Kogi State but also its surrounding areas. By prioritising education, entrepreneurship, social responsibility, and research, the universities would contribute significantly to the growth of the community and the state’s economy.

The future of the university that people tagged as a political strategy has now become a reference point as candidates of various political parties are now using it as campaign promises.
