When a bedding company based in Manhattan sought to trademark the phrase “Swift Home,” American singer Taylor Swift moved swiftly to prevent it.
The superstar requested that the US government, specifically the Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), intervene to prevent the bedding company from attempting to trademark “Swift Home”.
Swift argued it could be misleading and make consumers think it was connected to her, that she had endorsed its products.
Swift’s company, TAS Rights Management LLC, filed an opposition against Cathay Home Inc., a home goods company which had made an application on May 5, 2025, to register “Swift Home” for items including decorative pillows, mattresses, mattress toppers, bed sheets, comforters, duvets, pillowcases, quilts and sheet sets.
Swift’s legal team contended that the manner in which Cathay Home has styled the word “Swift” in its branding closely bore a resemblance to the singer’s trademarked cursive signature.
It displays a cursive “Swift” with four lines extending from the “t” like wings. Swift’s team argues the swoosh of the “S” and the flowing script are similar to Swift’s trademarked signature, first filed in 2009.
The home brand established a New York site in the United States, sells products through major retailers, and has applied for the “Swift Home” trademark for its bedding items.
Reports state that over the weekend, Cathay Home withdrew its application, with a representative stating the mark as not “essential to its business.”
