In a devastating act of violence, Mrs Omoru Mabel, mother of Ibrahim Omoru, was brutally killed on September 5, 2024, because she refused to reveal her son’s whereabouts to those determined to bring him back to Nigeria to face ‘justice’.
Her murder has left her family shattered and has plunged the entire Southern Kaduna Muslim community into grief and outrage.
The tragedy stemmed from Ibrahim Omoru’s alleged betrayal of trust and faith his community placed in him. Sponsored by the Southern Kaduna Muslim Community Forum to study in the United KKingdom, Ibrahim allegedly violated the sponsorship agreement. Just months after arriving abroad, he secretly converted to Christianity in collusion with his wife, a plan they had devised to use the community’s support as a stepping-stone for relocation, only to abandon the Islamic faith and sever ties with those who sacrificed for his future.
This calculated ‘betrayal’ has brought immeasurable shame and disgrace to the Southern Kaduna Muslim community and Ibrahim’s family. His father, who stood as his guarantor, has fully authorised the community leaders to take every possible step to locate Ibrahim and bring him back to face the consequences of his action under Islamic law where such acts of fraud, apostasy, and blasphemy are punishable by death under Sharia law.
Ibrahim’s whereabouts remained unknown, as he continued to hide in the UK under a new Christian identity, leaving his family to suffer the tragic consequences of his alleged deceit, including the senseless death of his mother, who paid the ultimate price for protecting her son.
Once trusted to return home after his studies and serve in the Army, an honour that would have brought pride and respect to his people. Ibrahim has instead chosen to disgrace his roots, break his promises, and abandon the faith that raised him.
His family has now disowned him completely, pledging their full support for any lawful action to bring him back, face the consequences, and restore the dignity and honour of the community and the memory of his late mother, Mrs Omoru.
