Delta State’s former Commissioner for Economic Planning, Dr Celestine Ofuani, has advised Nigerians to cultivate a good retirement plan.

He stated this in Asaba at the weekend during the unveiling of a book titled “Beyond The Paycheck: Uncovering Hidden Policies and Strategies For A Successful Retirement” and Dr Ufuoma Akpobire’s 40th birthday celebration.

Ofuani, the chairman of the occasion, said the book is an asset to those who desire a successful retirement plan.

While describing Ufuoma as a total woman who has made her mark in all works of life, he equally applauded her resourcefulness to her family and the academic world.

Industrialist and veteran journalist Sola Adebayo, described the book as an important tool for workers to use when planning for retirement.

Adebayo, who was also the chief launcher of the book, commended the celebrant, saying that she had done well.

While encouraging everyone to get a copy, he recommended the book to all workers as a tool for a successful retirement.

Prof Ann Ogbo, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in her foreword, said the book, with 11 chapters, offers a comprehensive guide to decisions that provides actionable ideas for maximising retirement income streams while maximizing financial risks.

“Beyond the Paycheck meets a critical need in Nigeria’s retirement space and bridges a knowledge gap that has left many unsure of their financial future.

“This book is a lot more than just an instruction manual; it is a rallying cry, an exhortation to claim your financial future. It is an appeal for anyone who is ready to re-imagine a Nigeria where financial stability does not have to be elusive and out of reach.

“But when you adopt financial literacy and responsibility, you can mould a future free from the shackles of never-ending paycheck-to-paycheck living,” Ogbo said.

Earlier, the author, Dr Ufoma, said Nigeria’s economic landscape has become so unpredictable that the hope of a comfortable retirement appears to be out of reach.

“The unfortunate reality is that securing a peaceful and comfortable life after retirement is now ultimately dependent on individuals. The book is the source of inspiration empowering Nigerians to take control of their financial futures,” Ufuoma said.

However, the celebrant’s husband, Mr Micheal Akpobire, appreciated Mr Adebayo and other guests for their presence and support of the event.

The event was attended by dignitaries from politics, academia, friends, NUJ and well-wishers of the family of Akpobire.
