Several passengers were injured on Monday after a Kaduna-Abuja passenger train derailed following a collision along the rail corridor.
Hundreds of travellers were left stranded following the disruption.
The incident caused panic among travellers and disrupting services on the busy train route.
Passengers aboard the train said the Abuja-bound service encountered an incident shortly after departing Jere station, forcing the train to halt temporarily along the route.
A social media user, Sada Malumfashi, who identified himself as one of the passengers on board, said a loud bang was heard before the train suddenly jolted to a stop.
“We heard a loud bang and the train jolted to a stop, flinging people across. Passengers got hit and most are bleeding and severely injured,” he said.
According to Malumfashi, the train remained stationary for about 30 minutes before it eventually resumed its journey towards Kubwa.
He also complained that there was no immediate communication from the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) regarding the incident.
Another X user, Zagazola Makama, also reported that the train travelling from Kaduna to Abuja derailed after a collision along the rail corridor.
Another passenger described the moment of impact as sudden and frightening.
“We were moving at a steady pace when there was a loud bang and the train suddenly braked. Everyone on board was shaken as we tried to understand what had happened,” the passenger said.
Passengers were later seen moving around the rail tracks after the incident, while several others appeared visibly shaken by the impact.
Though, the exact cause of the incident remains unclear, and it could not immediately be confirmed how many passengers were injured.
