Hunger: Taraba Denies Receiving Federal Govt’s 20 Trucks Of Rice

The Taraba State government has denied receiving the 20 truckloads of rice recently promised each State and FCT by the Federal Government in the wake of hunger and hardship in the country.

The Federal Government, through the Minister of Information and Orientation, had on the July 15, 2024 announced the distribution of 20 trucks of rice to each of the 36 States and the federal capital territory as part of palliatives to cushion the effect of high cost of living.

Though LEADERSHIP leant that several states of the federation have received their truckloads of rice and subsequently distributed the commodity to their populace, Taraba State government insisted it was yet to take delivery of the rice palliative like others.

The State’s Commissioner for Special Duties and Social Development, Hon. Saviour Noku, said the last time Taraba State government took delivery of palliatives from the federal government was on April 15, 2024.

Noku said Taraba State was yet to get the recent promise of 20 trucks of rice as promised by the federal government to avert the nationwide protest against hunger in August.

The commissioner said the last loads of palliatives the state recieved from the federal government was on April 15, stating that it was yet to take delivery of the said 20 trucks of rice.

“We have not taken delivery of the 20 truckloads of Rice as announced by Mr. President, the last time Taraba State received palliatives from the federal government was on the 15th April 2024,” Noku stated.
