One Tijjani Ahmadu Fiye, a 35-year-old resident of Bauchi metropolis, has mercilessly beaten his wife after stealing their television to raise money for investment in his shop.

Police detectives attached to ‘A’ Division Bauchi rushed the victim to hospital in a last-ditch effort to save her life.

LEADERSHIP learnt that Mr Diye, who veiled his face with a gag, hard-hit the wife with a pestle on the head. He pretended as though armed robbers invaded their apartment.

After being subjected to police interrogation, Mr Diye confessed to the offence. “I intended to neutralise her,” he emphasised.

Spokesperson of Bauchi Police command, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, who confirmed the incident to reporters in a statement over the weekend, said the suspect will be charged to court at the end of police’ discreet investigation to face consequences of his action.

“The suspect raised a false alarm that armed robbers entered their house. He quickly entered the bedroom, met his wife and asked her to cover her head with a scarf. He moved out of the room, covered his face with a scarf, armed himself with a pestle, came back to the bedroom, and started hitting her with the pestle.

“The suspect further confessed that he intended to neutralise her and take their television and sell it in order to raise money to furnish his shop,” he said.
