HYPPADEC Training Youths On Vocational Skills To Halt   Insecurity – Director

The Hydro Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC) has said its youths transformation training programme is capable of curbing the problems of insecurity in focus states.

Speaking during a training of trainers (ToT) programme for 30 master trainers in Ilorin, Kwara State, the director of  Community and Rural Development unit of HYPPADEC, Mr. Mahmoud Muhammed, identified poverty and high unemployment rate as major causes of insecurity among youths  in the country.

Represented by Dr Ibrahim Babangida Ibrahim, the director said the youth transformation training programme of the commission would help  reduce insecurity and make the youth self-reliant.

He said the commission was well equipped to make the youth productive, adding that futuristic youths now complement their academic degrees with vocational skills for improved socio-economic being and relevance.

The director urged the master trainers to impart quality training on the youths through capacity sharing to make them competent and capable master trainers on their own.

Also speaking, the Kwara State coordinator of HYPPADEC, Hajia Hajara Alhassan, said 97 master trainers had been scheduled to train 604 youths in five selected local government areas of the state.

Alhassan said that the youths would undergo training in 36 skills including computer application, fish farming, carpentry, hair dressing and barbing to improve their individual well being and develop their area.

She said the youth training programme was anchored on three prongs namely behavioural change, financial literacy and skills acquisition, adding that it was geared towards making the youth self reliant and not to be nuisance to the society.
